United Neighborhoods of Evansville, Inc. (UNOE), is a nonprofit corporation founded to preserve, enhance and promote Evansville neighborhoods. UNOE is comprised of neighborhood association members from throughout the Evansville and Vanderburgh County area.
In 1994 the Neighborhood Investment Council (NIC) was created as a task force by a United Way Planning Committee. By 1999 a neighborhood coalition was established that became known as Neighborhood Associates. In 2000 the name was changed to United Neighborhoods of Evansville (UNOE), and in 2001 we received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
The aims of UNOE are focused upon supporting the work of Neighborhood Associations (NAs). UNOE seeks to identify neighborhood concerns and work together with Associations on such issues. The agency assists NAs in working with community and government agencies. UNOE provides a common forum through which NAs can exchange information, knowledge, and expertise via monthly newsletters, monthly general meetings, public forums, website, social media and in collaboration with other community organizations that advocate for Evansville neighborhoods. UNOE helps citizens connect to NAs that represent their area and supports residents in forming new associations where such has previously not existed.
Neighborhood Associations renew their membership with UNOE in the first quarter of each year, which entitles each NA to a variety of services through the UNOE office. UNOE staff and board members can provide technical assistance on varying topics, pursuits and processes. NAs can tap into assistance with projects, programs, research, grant proposal writing, and development. A computer and work station is available for individual Neighborhood Association use at the UNOE office. UNOE provides design support and printing of Association newsletters at a reduced cost and use of UNOE’s mailing services and bulk permit. Each Neighborhood has a webpage on the UNOE website. NAs are eligible to receive free unlimited numbers of email addresses based on UNOE’s domain name and free website hosting, including assistance with setting up a website. Neighborhoods can benefit from workshops and seminars hosted or co-hosted by UNOE. Linkage with UNOE affords NAs with automatic access to City activities that affect neighborhoods, natural forums for supporting and equipping neighborhood development and opportunities to be represented on City neighborhood committees. Overall, as members of UNOE, Neighborhood Associations gain much from having strength in numbers.
