The heart of our work at Community One is to empower neighbors to love their neighbors by connecting the needs of our neighbors with volunteers like you who can assist with simple projects as an expression of love.

Note: Red Cross blood drives have the highest standards of safety and infection control—and do not fall in the category of “mass gatherings.” Preventative and protective efforts are in place where we provide protective equipment to all staff and volunteers, practice safe distancing by spacing beds, regularly clean areas, and pre-screening all blood donors to assure healthy and eligible donors are able to give.

Volunteer Event Sign-Up

Dream Center youth mentoring is a structured, Christ-centered, long-term relationship between a screened and trained adult volunteer and a neighborhood student, built on consistent monthly presence, listening, trust, and friendship. Mentors are trained and supported as they serve as stable, encouraging adults who walk alongside students toward a bright future. 

Volunteer applicants are required to submit to an in-depth background check, interviews, orientation, and on-going training and support. 

At Dream Center Evansville, we strongly believe in the restorative power of a safe environment and a warm meal. After-school programming, one of our original programs, is at the heart of what we do. We know how important it is to provide comfort, care, and support to our students. When you join an after-school program, Meal Team, you join us in our efforts to share God's love with our students. 

Mondays through Thursdays throughout the school year, we pick up our kids from Delaware, North Junior, or North High School and bring them back to DCE. Here, our students will have a warm meal, participate in a ministry lesson, and receive any other care they need. Our programming is where we can connect with kids after school and meet them where they are. We want you to be a part of this. 

We love having community partners visit during our programming! Joining a Meal Team is a flexible and rewarding way to engage with our students. There are various options available, allowing you to choose the level of commitment.

What is a Meal Team? 

A Meal Team comes in, on average, once a month to DCE to serve a meal to our students during program. There are several options when it comes to signing up to provide a meal. Meal Teams serve on Mondays & Wednesdays.

Meal Team can source, cook, serve, and clean up the Meal 

Meal team can cater the meal, and DCE will serve and clean up 

*Meal teams are ALWAYS welcome to stay and visit with students and staff during meal time* 

Food, Numbers, Timing: 

Food choice is completely optional and up to the discretion of the Meal Team. If you are looking for suggestions, please don‘t hesitate to reach out. 

We typically plan for around 60 students (we will contact you in a timely manner if this number changes). 

Meals need to be ready to serve by 5:20 p.m. Dinner will begin at 5:30. 

DCE will provide styrofoam containers in which the food will be placed for serving the meal. Once the containers are filled, all that is left to do is place them on the tables. The kids can self-serve with slight assistance from the Meal Team.

THANK YOU: 

Academic Tutors serve once a week during after-school programming, supporting students with homework and reinforcing classroom learning in a positive, encouraging environment. This role is ideal for patient, supportive volunteers who enjoy academics and want to help students grow in both confidence and skills. All tutors must complete a background check and required training prior to serving.

Are you interested in making fair housing a reality in Central Indiana? The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) needs a diverse group of dependable, conscientious people 18 years and older to assist in gathering information about housing practices. These persons are commonly referred to as “fair housing testers” or “mystery shoppers.” Testers are provided training and a stipend for their time and related expenses. Stipends vary depending on the task assigned.

The Salvation Army serves a lunch Monday, Tuesday & Thursday, Friday from 11:00-1:00 PM. We are need help from 10:45-1:15 to help serve the food into to either regular trays or to go trays for handing out.

This work is not very demanding and many elderly or retired workers looking to keep busy and be involved in what we do, enjoy serving in this program. It does require closed toed shoes, could get warm, and you do have to stand for about 2 hours.

Our mission is to serve hot, nutritious meals to the homebound in our community.  During the COVID-19, our clients need us even more.  To be eligible for this position, you must have a valid drivers license in good standing.  We provide the vehicle and the gasoline. 

Live Y'ers is an after-school and mentoring program for at-risk girls. Girls in grades three through five at Glenwood Leadership Academy and Lodge Community School are bused to the YWCA for an after-school program. Beginning in 6th grade, the girls are matched with an adult mentor, who serves as a sounding board and coach.

Girls have lunch with mentors and discuss important issues once per month at their school. This continues through their high school years at Bosse High School.  Mentors meet with their mentees for about 45 minutes, September through May.  We ask that volunteers commit to one school year at a time but hope they will continue with their assigned girl throughout the program at middle school and high school.  Volunteers may choose to meet with their girls additionally, outside of the school setting, but this is not a requirement.

We have found that participating in a mentoring relationship promotes positive social behavior and relationships for our girls, and results in improved attitudes toward education.  Many of our volunteers report that the experience is every bit as fulfilling for them as mentors.

The Recruitment Team is consisted of volunteers who help with marketing, outreach, admin, and partnerships. Activities may include researching, community canvassing, presentations, and leading grassroots projects.
