Who We Are
Students Believe Anything is Possible Through JA Programs!
We are often asked "Why JA" in relation to how it addresses societal issues, including work readiness, threatened graduation rates, financial literacy, increasing demand for STEM proficiencies, the ability of one generation to do better than the previous, and the growing loss of hope among our young people. JA's "Why" is the belief that no one can improve their circumstances without a belief in themselves and a sense of purpose. By showing students how money, careers and business ownership work through proven programs and the help and mentorship of volunteer role models from the community, Junior Achievement is empowering these students to have a belief in themselves supported by a foundation in these real-world life skills.
The impact JA volunteers have on students is powerful. Our volunteers serve as role models, helping students make the connection between what they learn and how it can ultimately impact their lives. In Junior Achievement, JA volunteers can be the catalyst that inspires a change in attitude and changes lives for generations to come.
Simply put…Junior Achievement inspires students to go from "I can't" to "I CAN!"
What We Do
At Junior Achievement, we give young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. We hope you will browse the website and be inspired to use your experiences, talents, and skills to help Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana empower our youth.
Since its inception in 1964, Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana (JASWIN) has grown to serve over 27,000 students in 11 counties in Southwestern Indiana and Southeastern Illinois.
JASWIN is available to any public, private or parochial school in grades K-12 in the 11 county service area. With proven curricula and thousands of classroom mentors, JASWIN is providing young people with the real-world skills they want and need, like how to manage money, how to prepare for a career, and how to open and run a business.
Our corporate and community volunteers serve as positive role models while delivering relevant, hands-on experiences that give students skills in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship.
JA programs empower these future leaders to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world – enhancing the relevance of their classroom learning and increasing their understanding of the value of staying in school. In the process, students are connecting classroom learning to the real world, which is allowing them to recognize the value of staying in school, increasing the likelihood they will graduate.
