Who We Are

For over a century, the YWCA Evansville has served as a refuge and source of support to women and children in Evansville and the surrounding area. Originally opened to provide safe and affordable housing to working women in the early 20th century, the YWCA now offers three distinct programs to continue the mission of offering a safe haven to some of the most vulnerable citizens of our community:  a domestic violence and emergency shelter, YES! (YWCA Embracing Sobriety) residential recovery program, and Live Y'ers, an after-school and mentoring program for at-risk young girls.

What We Do

A description of our three core programs:

We run a DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER for victims of abuse and their children, along with emergency housing for women and children who are homeless for reasons other than domestic violence.

Our YES! (YWCA Embracing Sobriety) residential recovery program is a 12-month program targeting homeless women in recovery from substance abuse.

LIVE Y'ERS is our after-school and mentoring program for at-risk girls who attend Glenwood Leadership Academy, Lodge Community School, and Bosse High School. We also started a Summer Live Y'ers program to provide additional help to students.

In addition, we lead and participate in activities relating to RACIAL JUSTICE and WOMEN'S FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT.
